In the new world order of college sports, cash is king even more than it was in the past. Virginia Tech's athletic program just came into an infusion of capital that figures to power their operation for years to come.
The school announced announced a historic $75 million donation made by a four-generation Virginia Tech legacy family that will mostly be utilized for sports.
“This historic commitment reflects extraordinary confidence in Virginia Tech’s rising potential in athletics and impactful scholarship,” said university President Tim Sands on the school's website. “We are deeply grateful to receive this unprecedented investment at a pivotal moment for Virginia Tech as we work to elevate the success of our teams and student-athletes and develop innovative educational experiences that prepare our students to lead."
Reports indicate that the funds can be used as the athletic director sees fit.
The timing of the donation comes several months after the Hokies brought on James Franklin as head coach of their football team.
