Viral Dylan Harper conspiracy had Spurs fans furious before truth finally came out originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The San Antonio Spurs lost Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals 122-113 to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday, tying the series 1-1. The Spurs played without two of their top three ball handlers, but the game was overshadowed by a viral social media rumor.
Rookie Dylan Harper, 20, started to fill the void of the injured De'Aaron Fox. He had 12 points and three assists in 25 minutes before injuring his right leg late in the third quarter on a drive against Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
When Harper tried to return to the bench, the team's medical staff sent him straight to the tunnel for evaluation. And this moment has been making rounds online with a false narrative.
A clip posted by @HammerTimeLays, showing Harper walking toward the bench only to be waved off by a man in a suit, racked up over 15 million views within hours. The caption claimed a FanDuel employee ordered the injured player back to the locker room to manipulate betting outcomes.

Fans piled on with one writing, "Vegas made the call 2 million were on Dylan Harper over. Dylan Harper went to the locker room then tried to return to the game and then the Spurs medical staff told him to go back to the locker room.”
Another added, "This looks so sus! Dylan Harper had 12 points and his over was 13.5 points! The game was close too and easily winnable! Vegas called and the Spurs answered."
A third viewer claimed, "Most obvious rig to 7.”
The fifth one penned, "Pulling players out the game [with] fake injuries [and] stat corrections — send these cheating —s to prison."
The problem? The man waving Harper off the floor was an NBA medical trainer, not a sportsbook employee. According to Jared Weiss of The Athletic, trainers sent Harper to the locker room after he pulled his right hamstring on a blocked layup.
Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said Harper will have an MRI on Thursday in San Antonio per ESPN, making his availability for Game 3 uncertain. Former NFL team doctor David J. Chao reviewed the broadcast footage and suggested the injury looks like a right hamstring strain that will likely sideline Harper for multiple games.

With the series tied 1-1 as it returns to San Antonio, the Spurs face a critical backcourt shortage. They are already playing without De'Aaron Fox due to a high ankle sprain and may now miss Harper as well. The team's health is in serious jeopardy.
