It has been quiet on the basketball front, but the offseason has been full of good news.
The Wildcats received more good news over the weekend — this time on the gridiron.
On Saturday, an Ohio judge granted Villanova quarterback Pat McQuaide another year of elibigility, meaning he will return for the 2026 season.
Villanova filed a waiver for McQuaide to be eligible to play in 2026-27. The NCAA denied this request.
Cayuhoga County Common Pleas Court judge Timothy P. McCormick claimed that the NCAA could not enforce its eligibility rules against McQuaide.
The 23-year-old quarterback was a junior in high school during the COVID pandemic. He believes that this hindered progress in development and recruiting. McQuaide ended up at Kent State as a walk on, where he redshirted his first year, before transferring to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. He spent one year there before two at Nicholls State.
Villanova initially requested that McQuaide’s 2022 season at community college should not count against his eligible seasons since it is a junior college and not under the purview of the NCAA.
McQuaide spent 2025 with the Wildcats. He threw for 3,092 yards and 24 touchdowns with four interceptions. He added three rushing touchdowns.
