Villanova is entering the most important time of the season.

While the postseason is not among us just yet, the Wildcats will face five extremely pivotal games before the Big East Tournament.

Villanova’s last two losses have come to UConn. The first meeting, a 75-67 overtime loss in Storrs, was followed up by six consecutive victories. This solidified the Wildcats as that No. 3 team in the Big East this season.

It was a poor second half that led to a second loss to the Huskies this season. While it was a chance to earn a signature victory on the resume, a loss to the No. 5 team in the nation does not hurt Villanova’s prospects come postseason time. The question is, can the team respond in the same way?

That is what needs to happen on Wednesday night against Butler. The Wildcats defeated Butler back on Jan. 3 in the third conference game of the season. The Bulldogs have played to a 6-11 mark in the Big East this season. This is a must-win contest for the Wildcats on their home floor.

There are multiple reasons why this is an important game for the Wildcats. First, get the bad taste of Saturday night out of their mouths. And more importantly, St. John’s is on deck. Villanova cannot let this loss spiral into a potential three-game losing streak.

Bryce Lindsay has continued to struggle but is beginning to work his way out of this slump a bit. Devin Askew is currently in one of his own from the outside. Acaden Lewis and Tyler Perkins have picked up the slack but it would be nice to see the entire backcourt come together at once heading into the postseason.

After St. John’s, the Wildcats will finish the season with DePaul and Xavier. There is a chance for the team to win 14-15 conference games this season. It is important for Villanova to get back on track following a loss with this matchup on Wednesday night against Butler.
