The Minnesota Vikings are 10 days away from their preseason opener. The Vikings starting lineup is starting to take shape.
The Vikings' quarterback battle between incumbent J.J. McCarthy and anticipated starter Kyler Murray appears to be logically pushing toward conclusion, though some are suspending disbelief. It seems fairly clear that Murray is more ready to take hold of the starting spot, and it shouldn't surprise because of what we have seen from both quarterbacks in their careers.
We got an update on that battle but also learned more about the offense that the Vikings could put on the field. On Wednesday, the spotlight shifted to offensive and defensive skill players. One analyst gave his assessment of what he saw in practice.
ESPN NFL insider Kevin Seifert gave his report of practice action on Wednesday. He updated the camp with the following news on the latest on practice. Here's some of what Seifert had to share on Wednesday.
"Facing pressure during a two-minute drill, quarterback Kyler Murray made a smart decision: He lofted a jump ball for receiver Justin Jefferson. Predictably, Jefferson extended over cornerback Isaiah Rodgers and safety Theo Jackson to make the catch and scoot into the end zone. Murray also had a key scramble during the drill, keeping the drive alive.
Receiver Jordan Addison jammed his thumb Tuesday. O'Connell said tests revealed no serious injury. During practice, Addison was in full pads and ran routes during individual drills. But he did not have a pass thrown in his direction, and he worked out on a side field during team drills."

The report on Jefferson seems business as usual. We know what Jefferson brings on a game-to-game basis, and it does not appear to be changing this season.
What is noteworthy is the injury to fellow star receiver Jordan Addison, though Jefferson is in his own tier with the team.
One would assume the jammed thumb scare is probably not a huge deal. Then again, we really don't know the severity of the jam.
Compounding the injury is the importance of a fully functioning hand at the wide receiver position. That's not to say that a thumb injury would not affect other positions. It is to say that a receiver's effectiveness relies a great deal on his hands.
So far, it appears the Vikings are dodging severe injuries. They will look to stay healthy as they get closer to the preseason.
