The Minnesota Vikings have one of the most intriguing training camp battles to watch this summer. JJ McCarthy and Kyler Murray are wrestling for the starting quarterback position, but an injury has people’s attention after Wednesday. ESPN’s Kevin Seifert reported that Jordan Addisonis sidelined with a finger injury.

“Jordan Addison will miss a day or two after jamming his thumb, per Kevin O’Connell. Tests showed the injury will be short-term,” Seifert reported.

Addison had his worst season as a professional in 2025 after serving a three-game suspension for violating the substance abuse policy. He managed only 42 catches and three touchdowns in the 14 games he did play for a Vikings team that missed the playoffs.

While this injury is not significant, it could impact his standing with the next starting quarterback. As McCarthy and Murray get used to working with their receivers, Addison will be watching on the sideline. Training camp is a key time for all teams, especially ones with new quarterbacks. Now the Vikings will be without their top receiver.

The Vikings had a disappointing 9-8 season last year, just one season removed from a 14-win campaign. While they watched their former quarterback, Sam Darnold, win the Super Bowl, they had to create a competition for their first-round pick. Their receiver core, including Addison, should make a quarterback’s job easier. But McCarthy and Max Brosmer made it look hard last year.

Addison must rebound from last year’s debacle, which included only 610 yards. He is a key piece of the Vikings’ roster moving forward, and his rookie deal is coming to an end soon. Minnesota picked up Addison’s fifth-year option after last season, so he has two years before hitting unrestricted free agency. He could push the Vikings’ hand on a new contract with an elite season this year.

The Vikings open the season against the Green Bay Packers on September 13th.
