The Minnesota Vikings' defense thrives on the play of their secondary. It was an issue in 2025, but it seems they were well aware of that as they kicked off free agency.
NFL Media’s Cameron Wolfe reported that the Vikings and free agent cornerback James Pierre are in agreement on a two-year deal. It is worth a maximum of $8.5 million with $3.7 million guaranteed.
Pierre played outside cornerback for the Pittsburgh Steelers since being drafted in 2020 out of FAU. He should be expected to help take some pressure off Byron Murphy Jr. and play opposite Isaiah Rodgers. As a whole, this gives the Vikings a more well-rounded secondary.
The team has been mocked cornerbacks several times in recent weeks, will this change those plans? Perhaps, but only pushing it to day two or day three of the draft, as depth remains an issue.
