Vikings made decision on starting QB in the fashion they expected

The Vikings quarterback battle did not even make it to the first preseason game. After weeks of build-up, OTAs, and training camp practices, we have now arrived at a decision on the starter by head coach Kevin O'Connell.

On Tuesday, the Minnesota Vikings named Kyler Murray as their starting quarterback for the start of the regular season. ESPN's Adam Schefter was the first to report the news of the decision.

All offseason, Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell talked about a timeline for naming the starter. He said he knew the date, but he wasn't sharing it. It seems by naming Murray the starter on Tuesday, he tipped his hand to the timeline.

O'Connell explained, "We had this timeline, as Nolan and I worked through the summer kind of talking about what we wanted this to look like, right around now."

Murray will get his first live game work with the Vikings on Saturday when they face off against the New York Giants.
