The Los Angeles Clippers have decided to counter San Antonio Spurs' 7'4" star Victor Wembanyama with their own towering big man. Sort of. Although it's unlikely the Clippers' newest signing will see much floor time against Wembanyama in the immediate future, Jamarion Sharp signing a two-way deal with the team did give L.A.'s new two-way center one off-court victory. Sharp, who stands at 7'5", is now the NBA's tallest active player.
The news of Sharp signing a two-way contract, which will allow him to spend time with the Clippers and their G League affiliate, the San Diego Clippers, was detailed by Bleacher Report. It also cited that Sharp surpassed Wemby and Zach Edey (7'3") as the NBA's new tallest player.
Wemby has emerged as one of the faces of the NBA, and it's easy to see why. The 22-year-old led the Spurs to the NBA Finals last season, and while they ultimately fell to the New York Knicks, San Antonio is positioned to remain a legitimate contender for the foreseeable future.
It'll be interesting to monitor how Sharp progresses with the Clippers' G League affiliate. He played three collegiate seasons, spending his first two with Western Kentucky, averaging 7.8 points, 7.6 rebounds and 4.4 blocks over 64 games before transferring to Ole Miss for the 2023-24 season. In his lone season with Ole Miss, he averaged 3.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.4 blocks over 15.8 minutes per game.
