Victor Wembanyama already has a number of accolades during his first three NBA seasons, and now he has another milestone to add to his rapidly growing résumé.
The San Antonio Spurs superstar has been selected as the cover athlete for the standard edition of NBA 2K27, becoming the first player in franchise history to earn the honor.

It's another sign of Wembanyama's growing influence both on and off the court. Since arriving in San Antonio as the No. 1 overall pick in 2023, the 7-4 phenom has evolved from one of basketball's most exciting prospects into one of the faces of the NBA.
Wembanyama is coming off a remarkable campaign that saw him earn unanimous NBA Defensive Player of the Year honors while also receiving First Team All-NBA recognition. He averaged 25 points, 11.5 rebounds, and a league-leading 3.1 blocks per game as the Spurs made a run to the NBA Finals.

While he was not able to lead San Antonio to the championship, him being just 22 years old is a great sign for the franchise's future.
Wembanyama called the opportunity "a dream come true," noting that he has spent years playing the NBA 2K series and appreciates how it allows players and fans to stay connected to the game.
The Spurs have had two players on the cover of different editions of the game, but they were international editions. Tony Parker was on the French release of NBA 2K16, and Pau Gasol graced the front of NBA 2K17's Spanish edition, which means that Wemby is the first Spur to ever be on the cover of the regular edition released in the U.S.
The standard edition of NBA 2K27 is scheduled for worldwide release on Sept. 4, while players who purchase the Deluxe or Ultra editions will receive early access beginning Aug. 28. Wembanyama will headline the standard cover, while WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark and former NBA MVP Derrick Rose will appear on the Deluxe and Ultra editions, respectively.
For the Spurs, Wembanyama's latest achievement is about more than appearing on the front of a video game. It reflects how far the franchise has come in a short period of time and how its franchise cornerstone has become one of the defining figures of the NBA.
As San Antonio looks to build on last season's Finals appearance, Wembanyama continues to elevate both the Spurs' championship aspirations and the organization's profile across the basketball world.
