San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama would be facing a suspension if the NBA had made the right call on a clear flagrant foul on New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson in Game 3.
In the third quarter of Game 4 on Wednesday night, Wemby committed a flagrant foul on Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns after Wemby hit Towns with an elbow to the chin.
Wemby was called for a Flagrant 1, which means he now has three flagrant foul points in the playoffs after he hit Minnesota Timberwolves center Naz Reid with an elbow in the Western Conference semifinals.
Had the NBA’s review of his uncalled foul on Brunson in Game 3 that saw Wemby shove the Knicks star to the ground led to a retroactive flagrant foul (it should have), Wembanyama would be suspended for Game 5 because he would have four flagrant foul points.
Instead, the NBA inexplicably did not give Wemby the flagrant foul after its bogus review and that has bailed the Spurs center out.
The NBA did, however, admit Wemby fouled Brunson, but somehow did not see fit to give the Spurs star the Flagrant 1 he should have gotten.
That decision now looms incredibly large.
