SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Veterans Memorial Golf Course will host a qualifying round for the Massachusetts Amateur Golf Championship on Tuesday.

The qualifier is set to begin at 7:30 a.m., marking the fourth consecutive year the Massachusetts Golf Association has selected Veterans Memorial as a qualifying site.
A field of 105 golfers from across the state will compete for a spot in the championship set for July at Winchester Country Club. The top eight finishers will advance to the 118th Massachusetts Amateur Championship.

“We are proud to be hosting a Massachusetts Amateur Qualifier event like this once again,” said Veterans Golf Course Manager Rick Lombardi. “This will be our 4th consecutive year being chosen by Mass Golf to host an event. There are over a hundred players from all over the state, and eligibility handicap must be a 3.6 or better, which means some really good golf will be played. The golf course is in tremendous shape, and the weather looks beautiful for this event. We are looking forward to showcasing our beautiful public course.”
Springfield’s two municipal courses, Veterans Memorial and Franconia, have recently undergone major renovations. The city reported record-breaking revenue during the 2025 golf season, with the public courses generating $2.3 million combined from rounds played and cart rentals.

City officials and course operators say both facilities have gained increased regional recognition while maintaining some of the most affordable rates in the area.
