Kenny Pickett just can't catch a break. After being passed over by the Steelers, he was traded to the Eagles, then the Browns, in hopes of revitalizing his career as a potential NFL starting QB — but according to insider Albert Breer, veteran QB Joe Flacco may have something to say about that.
On The Rich Eisen Show, Breer argued that Flacco is currently in the "pole position" to lead the Browns' QB room, and explained it in depth:
"My sense is that Joe Flacco is going to take the first snap in the spring — which, there's some significance to that. I think Mike Tomlin called it 'pole position' last year, when he was talking about his own quarterback situation. I think Joe Flacco has pole position here."
Breer continued to shed light on what's in store for Pickett's future, including the possibility of releasing either him or Flacco depending on who wins the starting job:
"Walking away from either guy would more or less have the same penalty. So, even though Joe Flacco gets the first snap in the spring, that doesn’t mean, like, Kenny Pickett won’t get the first snap in the summer or that Joe Flacco is gonna make the team if Kenny Pickett wins the job."
He also alluded to the possibility that neither rookie QB — Dillon Gabriel nor Shedeur Sanders — could be deemed quality backups, potentially opening the door for both Flacco and Pickett to make the roster.
Will Pickett find a way to earn the Browns’ trust ahead of the 2025 regular season — or will Flacco pull a Russell Wilson–sized swerve on Kenny 'Two-Gloves'?
