Vermont Green Football Club seeks to continue its run at the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in a second-round showdown vs. Westchester SC at University of Vermont's Virtue Field on Wednesday, April 1.
Two weeks after beating Portland Hearts of Pine on home soil, the Vermont Green chases a 2-for-2 effort against USL League One opponents for the right to advance to the third round of the nation's oldest soccer tournament. On March 17, David Ismail had the lone goal in a 1-0 result over Portland Hearts.
The Green vs. Westchester SC contest is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
Westchester club hails from Westchester County, New York, playing home matches in Mount Vernon. Like Portland, the squad made its inaugural season in USL League One in 2025. Westchester finished in last place in its debut campaign and dismissed its coaching staff.
A year ago, though, Westchester reached the third round of the U.S. Open Cup after victories over FC Motown and New York Pancyprian-Freedoms. Westchester's roster for Wednesday's match vs. Green includes Daniel Burko, a Norwegian striker who helped Hofstra end the No. 1 Vermont Catamounts' season in the second round of the NCAA men's soccer tournament this past fall.
This is the second time in three years Vermont Green will host a second-round U.S. Open Cup. In 2024, Vermont fell to Carolina Core FC in a 2-1 contest.

Vermont Green announced four additions to its U.S. Open Cup roster. They are: Alex Hall, Mitch Baker, Martin Bakken and Luca Nikolai.
Hall, a member of 2025 NCAA champion Washington, was a key player on the Green's national championship squad last summer. Baker is a standout from Georgetown and a Colorado Rapids' 2026 MLS SuperDraft selection (10th overall). Bakken, who plays at Clemson, has a brother on the UVM ski team. And Nikolai plays for North Carolina.
