The Los Angeles Angels entered Wednesday on the verge of an ugly sweep against the lowly Colorado Rockies in Anaheim.
The Angels dropped the first game of the series by one run but lost 8-2 on Tuesday night, so there were plenty of worries going into Wednesday's series finale.
Instead, the Angels' bats came to life big time in Anaheim. They scored six runs in the 2nd inning to break things wide open, and they followed that by scoring at least one run in the 4th through 6th innings.
Here's how the Angels scored the six runs in the 2nd inning:
Then, Grissom added a two-run home run in the 4th inning to make the Angels lead 8-1.
A Jo Adell RBI single made it 9-3, and the Angels scored a pair in the 6th as Peraza and Madrigal each had RBI base knocks.
A total of eight Angels players had at least one hit and six players had at least one RBI.
Grissom went 2-for-5 with three RBI and Wade Meckler had four hits in five at-bats with two runs scored.
Meanwhile, Walbert Urena had another strong start. Urena went six innings, allowing three runs on three hits with three walks and seven strikeouts as he moved to 3-4 on the year with a 2.68 ERA.
It marked the seventh straight start where Urena went five or more innings, and he continues to look like a solid option for the starting rotation in Anaheim.
Rockies starter Michael Lorenzen, who once played for the Angels, went just 3.1 innings, allowing eight runs on 10 hits as his ERA is now at a whopping 8.01 on the season.
Tyler Freeman and Troy Johnston each had a pair of RBI for the Rockies in the loss, but the six-run 2nd inning proved to be a big step for the Angels on Wednesday.
The Angels also snapped a three-game losing streak.
Unfortunately, things don't get much better. The Angels are off on Thursday before beginning a three-game series on the road against Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The projected starters for Friday is Reid Detmers for the Angels (2-5 record, 4.63 ERA) and Roki Sasaki for the Dodgers (3-3 record, 4.59 ERA).
