Aiden Ruiz, a Vanderbilt baseball signee, was selected in the second round, 44th overall in the 2026 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 11.
Ruiz is expected to sign and begin his professional career rather than play for the Commodores.
The No. 9 player in the 2026 class by Perfect Game and the No. 32 player in the draft by MLB Pipeline, Ruiz is a switch-hitting shortstop who is most known for his defensive ability as well as his contact skills. He is from Queens, New York, and attends the Stony Brook School.
Committed to Vanderbilt since October 2024, Ruiz has long been considered unlikely to make it to campus. His skillset is similar to several players already on the team, including fellow switch-hitting up the middle defenders Rustan Rigdon and Ryker Waite.
