Braden Holcomb, the outfielder who led Vanderbilt baseball in several major offensive categories in 2026, was drafted in the 12th round of the 2026 MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox on July 12.
Holcomb led the team in batting average (.352), doubles (19) and RBIs (54) and was second in on-base percentage (.434) and third in home runs (14). The former top-50 high school recruit fully broke out in his junior season after hitting below .300 with 14 combined home runs in his first two seasons.
His power is his top tool. At the MLB Draft combine, Holcomb's 90th percentile exit velocity was eighth among 102 participants. He was ranked the No. 226 prospect in the MLB Draft by MLB Pipeline.
At Vanderbilt, Holcomb's top highlight was hitting two walk-off home runs in 2025, one against Alabama and one against Kentucky.
The 6-5, 245-pounder was recruited as an infielder but has mostly played outfield with the Commodores, though he saw occasional time at third base and first base. In 2026, he started 24 games in left field, 24 games in center field, five games in right field and five games at third base.
While he did not play first base in 2026, he appeared in 20 games there in his first two seasons. Though a below-average defender in center field, he was above-average in left field, racking up 2.82 Defensive Runs Saved, per D1Baseball.
