The official United States Men’s National Team roster for the World Cup is scheduled to be released on Tuesday. But multiple major news outlets have reportedly obtained the full 26-man roster ahead of the official release.
On Friday, The Athletic reported that midfielder Gio Reyna, winger Brenden Aaronson, center back Mark McKenzie, goalkeeper Matt Turner and midfielder Sebastian Berhalter were informed they made the team.
Then, The Guardian revealed the 26-man roster in a report on Saturday.
Some of the most notable omissions from the roster were Lyon center midfielder Tanner Tessmann and Real Salt Lake attacker Diego Luna. Tessmann is currently sidelined with a muscle strain he suffered earlier this month, and Luna is also dealing with a muscle injury. Both injuries could be factors in why the pair were not selected for the World Cup roster.
Luna’s absence opened the door for Club América winger Alejandro Zendejas to make the team. This is Zendejas’s first time making the senior team roster since September. With Club América, Zendejas recorded 12 goals and seven assists in 2,443 minutes this season.
Of the 26 players on the roster, 13 have played in the World Cup before while the other 13 are new selections.
USMNT has two more games before the World Cup begins. First, they will play Senegal on May 31 then Germany on June 6. Managers must submit the official team rosters to FIFA by June 1.
The official announcement of the USMNT’s World Cup roster will be on Tuesday afternoon in New York City.
