Is proper english and grammar a big thing in Arizona?

I can't believe a how much some football fans are anal about grammar and such.

This is a message board. Not a college English class. I really don't care about my spelling or grammar while writing on this thing, and boy does it show.

The point of this board is to make a point.................hmmm, I fail at doing that also.

Oh well.

The point is leave your english books at home.

Everyone makes mistakes in grammar and spelling, that's understood, even acceptable. But why should one not at least attempt to get it correct? It benefits oneself and others when things are expressed properly. It promotes better understanding.

What?
Next person to spell loser as looser is banned. If you can't tell the difference between a girl you hope to date and a game we lost you can't post for a couple days. JMHO.

As a future teacher, the internet is ruining a generation of students. I have to grade essays at my internship that use internet slang. "U R going to go to school" and seeing LOL in homework is deeply disturbing.

That is classic! I believe that language is called AOLspeak. I guess I am contributing to the dumbing of America in my own way. At work, I began using small post-it notes with hand-drawn emoticons whenever a blatantly faulty project is turned in for review. It saves me time/stress and gets the message across immediately. I always try to make the emoticon have an unemotional face...not happy, not sad, not mad, kinda like this without the thumb :thumbdown . My Techs have begun to keep the notes like a trophy collection :biglaugh:

As one who aspires to the profession of teaching, you may want to work on that first sentence. :D

Another one that's become prevalent is the misuse of the pronoun 'myself.'

Everytime I hear 'it happened to myself' or 'myself and Marcel went to dinner' it just makes me cringe!!

the one that drives me crazy is the misuse of 'Your' and 'you're'

eg. Your mother wears army boots / You're wrong, McCown rules

One that I still hear is "grow the economy" or "grow our profits". AAAAAAHHH it drives me crazy!!! Who says this besides politicians and newspeople? It should be "make the economy grow" or make our profits grow".
