SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — USD softball’s historic run in the program’s first NCAA tournament ended in an extra innings against Grand Canyon on Saturday evening.
The Coyotes earned their first-ever tournament win in an upset over two-seed Louisville before a dramatic comeback in the seventh inning against GCU to push it to extras. Those extra innings would see the Lopes claim a 5-4 win over the Yotes to end their season.
“I think that the experience is invaluable because you can say it all you want but now they’ve been through it,” USD head coach Robert Wagner said. “They’ve had that experience. I think moving forward it’s going to benefit the players and the program.”
South Dakota finishes its season Summit League champions with a 21-36-1 overall record.
