It's happening. The announcement is only a formality.

I wonder where ORE goes? Cristobal brought them back into national spotlight before bolting. I doubt the PAC-12 dissolves and remainder of teams get absorbed into Mountain West.

The geography based conference model is officially no more after this. I'd guess the only way for Pac 12/Big 12 to stay relevant would be to merge and pick the biggest schools for a top tier conference (even that is debatable with what's left) while a second conference would be a mid-major level. I mean, a conference like this would still at least have an argument to be the 4th in a "Big 4" while keeping some geographic rivalries and having enough fire power in both college football & basketball.

Division 1:
Washington & Washington State
Oregon & Oregon State
Stanford & Cal
Arizona & Arizona State

Division 2:
Kansas & Kansas State
Texas Tech & Oklahoma State (picked OSU over TCU)
Baylor & Houston (could sub TCU here)
Cincinnati & West Virginia

I joked about this to my friends about 20 years ago when conference realignments first began, that eventually college football would be comprised of just two conferences - the Big 60 and the Pac 40.

At least I thought I was joking at the time.

Big 12 huh? With no Oklahoma or Texas.

Barely better than MWC, but I am not totally sure.

Future ASU Coach to future ASU recruit: "Great competition in our conference. You will get to play on the big stages of Stillwater, Waco and Lubbock."

I'm assuming Oregon and Washington try to get into the BIG10. Nike U and Seattle seems like they would be appealing to them, plus it gives some travel partners.

That leaves 8 schools. Joining the BIG 12 to make 20 makes the most sense. BYU naturally moves to the West conference with maybe TT (sucks for them) Having a CA footprint would be appealing to BIG 12.

I could also see just the four corner schools going BIG 12.

Notre Dame has an open invitation to the Big 10 and if they accept, it’ll make things interesting.

Every school in the Pac-12 needs to be looking for new homes immediately

This is all Larry Scott’s fault. **** Larry Scott
To where?

Is the Big 12 better than the remaining 10 teams?

I don’t think so.

Grab San Diego St. Try to get 1-3 of the Big 12 members

Oregon and Washington are likely Big 10 bound.
