Last month, USC lost its projected 2026 starting tight end when Walker Lyons elected to enter the NCAA transfer portal. On Sunday, the Trojans saw another portal departure at the tight end position in redshirt freshman Joey Olsen.

Olsen arrived at USC as a four-star recruit in the class of 2024. In two years with the Trojans, he did not catch any passes.

"Truly grateful for my time at USC," Olsen wrote on social media Sunday night. "Can’t wait for the next chapter!"

USC recently signed class of 2026 five-star Mark Bowman and top junior college tight end Josiah Jefferson. However, the Trojans do not have much Division I experience returning at the position. It will be interesting to see if USC looks to add a veteran tight end in the transfer portal, or if the Trojans trust their young guys to come in and carry the load right away.

The NCAA transfer portal will remain open until January 16. USC's players have until then to decide if they want to enter the portal or return to play for the Trojans in 2026. There will be no spring transfer portal window this year.
