Stop me if you have heard this one before: On Sunday, USC picked up a commit from UCF transfer cornerback Chasen Johnson. No, this is not a headline from December—Johnson has committed to the Trojans once again.
Johnson originally entered the transfer portal and committed to USC back in the winter. Eventually, however, he withdrew from the portal and wound up back at UCF, where he played his freshman year in 2024.
During the spring portal window, however, Johnson decided to transfer once again. This time, the Trojans were able to seal the deal.
A with Johnson now vs. five months ago is that USC now has Chad Bowden. Back in December, the Trojans did not have a GM in place, which made recruiting players in the transfer portal more difficult. With Bowden at the helm, USC was able to atone for the mistake that it made losing Johnson the first time.
At UCF last year, Johnson had 18 tackles and two passes defended. He should be a key piece in a USC secondary that will be looking to rebuild after losing the majority of its production from last season.
