Countdown to kickoff is back! USC will kick off its 2026 football season on August 29 when the Trojans host San Jose State at the Coliseum. In this series, we will be counting down the days until the season opener by highlighting a notable Trojan who wore each number.

With 21 days to go, today we look at former USC running back LenDale White.

Position: Running back

Years played at USC: 2003-2005

Career highlights: From 2003 through 2005, White teamed up with Reggie Bush to form one of the greatest running back duos in college football history. Known as the “Thunder” to Bush’s “Lightning”, White was a powerful back who thrived in short yardage and red zone situations. He had double-digit rushing touchdowns in all three of his seasons in Cardinal and Gold, including a historic 24 as a junior in 2005.

White’s 52 career rushing touchdowns are the most in USC history. In his three seasons with the program, the Trojans went 37-2, winning two national championships and coming up one victory short of a third.

After USC: White declared for the 2006 NFL Draft, where the Tennessee Titans selected him in the second round. White’s professional career was an up-and-down one. While he rushed for over 1,100 yards in 2007 and had 15 touchdowns in 2007, he struggled with weight issues and concerns about his work ethic during his time in the league.

White’s last appearance in the NFL came with Tennessee in 2009. He had stints with the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos in 2010, but due to an injury and a failed drug test, he never appeared in a regular season game for either team.
