Countdown to kickoff is back! USC will kick off its 2026 football season on August 29 when the Trojans host San Jose State at the Coliseum. In this series, we will be counting down the days until the season opener by highlighting a notable Trojan who wore each number.
Not a ton of USC players have made a significant impact wearing the No. 76, so our options for today were somewhat limited. Nevertheless, let’s look back at former USC offensive lineman Nick Howell.
Position: Offensive line
Years played at USC: 2005-2009
Career highlights: Howell was a versatile offensive lineman during his time at USC, working at all five positions. After redshirting his first season in 2005, he earned significant playing time on special teams as a redshirt freshman in 2006, before missing the majority of the 2007 season with an injury. In 2008 and 2009, he returned to play a key role as a reserve offensive lineman, also starting a handful of games.
After USC: Howell signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent following the 2010 NFL Draft. He also briefly spent time with the San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints, and Oakland Raiders.
Howell’s father, Pat, also played offensive line at USC, earning All-American honors and helping lead the Trojans to a national championship in 1978.
