The USC baseball team is set to take on the UNC Tarheels this weekend in the Trojans’ first Super Regional appearance in 21 years.

USC (47-16) faces UNC (43-11-1) in a three-game series, with a trip to Omaha, Nebraska, and the College World Series on the line.

The Trojans haven’t made that eight-team tournament in 25 years, something that players and coaches have been thinking about, as reported by Haley Sawyer of the Orange County Register.

“It’s been an honor to wear the Trojan brand on the front of my chest,” sophomore catcher Augie Lopez said. “Honestly, just knowing that this team is the team to bring USC back to a super regional is incredible. It hasn’t hit me until right now, but just feeling grateful and super blessed.”

“Man, I can’t tell you how proud I am of everybody on our team,” added head coach Andy Stankiewicz. “They just kept working, kept getting after it and believing in each other.”

How did the USC Trojans get to the Super Regionals and what’s at stake?

Despite initially falling to Texas State, the Trojans made it out of a regional round hosted at top-seeded Texas A&M, a squad they beat in two games by a combined 21-4 score.

USC’s Isaac Cadena makes a catch to clinch the Trojans’ win in extra innings as the Oregon Ducks host the USC Trojans on May 14, 2026, in Eugene, Oregon.

Those wins allow the Trojans, the winningest program in college baseball history with 12 championships, to compete again for a title after decades without one.

As Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Los Angeles Times notes, “No player on the current roster was alive when the Trojans won their last national title in 1998.”

How to watch the USC baseball team
