SANTA CLARA, Calif. ― A wild turn of events during the USA vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina round of 32 World Cup match: U.S. star Folarin Balogun was served a red card and sent off in the 64th minute.
Balogun was going for the ball against Bosnia's Tarik Muharemovic and stepped on his ankle. Both took a tumble and went down with injury.
A delay in the match ensued as both players were tended to with injury. The referee reviewed the play and determined Balogun deserved a red card for the infringement.
LIVE: USA vs Bosnia updates, score and highlights
Balogun scored the USMNT's goal in the first half for a 1-0 lead, which they will not have to defend with just 10 men on the pitch and more than 25 minutes to go.
If they do win and advance to play Belgium in the round of 16, they will be without Balogun, who has been a superstar at the net during the World Cup, because of the red card suspension.
