Michigan Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore is heading into his second season leading the program after taking over for Jim Harbaugh, who departed following the team’s national championship run two seasons ago.
However, Moore’s 2025 campaign will begin later than expected, as it was announced this week that he has been suspended for the first two games of the season by the university.
The suspension is linked to the advanced scouting scheme involving Connor Stalions, a scandal that first surfaced during the 2023 season but stemmed from incidents dating back to the 2020 pandemic season. That investigation previously led to Harbaugh receiving a three-game suspension and Moore serving a one-game suspension.
While Michigan used the controversy as motivation on their way to defeating Washington in the national title game, further findings in the investigation have resulted in continued repercussions.
Despite the program doubling down on its claims of innocence, Moore’s suspension reportedly stems from 52 deleted text messages between him and Stalions on the day the scandal was made public.
Though this is expected to be the final disciplinary action Moore faces in the matter, it has sparked strong reactions—particularly from former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, who shared his thoughts on the latest episode of "The Triple Option" podcast on Wednesday.

Michigan finished last season with a 8–5 record and will open the upcoming season against New Mexico in Week 1. However, their Week 2 matchup could be far more intriguing, as they travel to Norman, Oklahoma for a high-stakes early-season showdown against the Oklahoma Sooners.
They'll have to navigate that game without head coach Sherrone Moore on the sidelines, which could prove challenging—especially if five-star true freshman Bryce Underwood, who is currently the frontrunner for the starting quarterback role, makes his first major road start in that environment.

"If you lie, as a college football coach to the NCAA, in my personal opinion, you're finished," Meyer strongly said. "You're done, that's not making a text message, that's not going to lunch with someone your not supposed to go to lunch with... when they got you and they say did you do this, and they refuse to cooperate, or they lie, in my very strong opinion, you're finished coaching in Division I college football. Guess what happens? The risk now is too high, and I don't think you ever see this stuff again."

Meyer added, "Why is Dez Bryant treated more harshly than coaches that maybe lied to the NCAA? I have asked that question many times. If this guys not telling the truth, why is he coaching? You're finished coaching if you lie to the NCAA."
