According to reports, the Philadelphia Flyers are even closer to an extension with star goalie Dan Vladar. First, it was Elliotte Friedman reporting the two sides are nearing an extension, likely a 5-year deal. Now, Kevin Weekes has chimed in.

The ESPN NHL Insider reports that the Flyers and Vladar are nearing a 5-year extension with an AAV likely to fall in the “Mid $5 million” range.

One thing that still remains true: any extension for Vladar cannot be official until July 1st, when the new league year begins. Vladar will have one year remaining on the 2-year deal worth $3.35 million a year signed last July 1st.

When the initial report from Friedman came out, we used the 6-year, $6.25 million AAV deal signed by Adin Hill in Vegas, and the 5-year deal worth $6.5 million annually for Lukas Dostal in Anaheim as comparable deals.

If the mid-$5 million range holds for Vladar, that will come in roughly $1 million below those comparisons, making it a very team-friendly deal if he continues to play the way he did this past season.

In a career-high 52 appearances, Vladar went 29-14-7 with a 2.42 GAA and a .906 SV% – all career highs. He also had a 2.18 GAA and .922 SV% in 10 playoff games for the Flyers this season. It looks like the Flyers are even closer to rewarding their star netminder after a stellar deal.

With the new projected AAV, what are your thoughts on a potential Dan Vladar extension?
