University of Toledo
A University of Toledo Track and Field athlete died in a car crash in central Ohio on Friday, according to the university.
19-year-old Eva Moran, a freshman pole vaulter for the Rockets, died after a crash in Marion County on Friday afternoon.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Moran was driving a car on Route 309 when it struck the back of an SUV. Moran’s car then went left of center into the westbound lane where it was hit by another car.
Moran was taken to the hospital in Marion where she died of her injuries.
Moran was a rising star in the Track and Field program at UToledo. She finished in 10th place in the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships with a personal best mark of 3.57m, the sixth-best height in program history.
"Eva approached every practice, every competition and every challenge with a positive attitude and a genuine love for her teammates. She was eager to learn, eager to improve and proud to represent the University of Toledo,” said Andrea Grove-McDonough, Director of Cross Country and Track and Field at the university.
Moran is from Caledonia, Ohio, east of Marion. She was pursuing a career in health sciences.
