With less than two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Drake's Maggie Taylor grabbed an offensive rebound and tried putting it back up for a basket. Waiting there was Northern Iowa's Ryley Goebel, who swatted the shot away.

The block was Goebel's 10th of the day. It allowed the Panthers to hold off another run by the Bulldogs and secured some history for Goebel.

The 6-foot senior from Urbana finished with a triple-double, and the Panthers ended a five-game losing streak to Drake by picking up a 66-56 win at the Knapp Center on Feb. 1.

Goebel scored 18 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and blocked 10 shots for the Panthers, who improved to 11-10 on the season including 7-4 in Missouri Valley Conference play.

Drake has lost three straight and fell to 6-15 overall and 5-6 in the MVC. Northern Iowa picked up its first win in the series since Feb. 1, 2023.

Panthers coach Tanya Warren secured the 350th win of her coaching career. Goebel played a big part, connecting on 7-of-12 shots from the field while helping Northern Iowa battle back from a nine-point deficit in the third quarter.

Northern Iowa scored the first four points of the second quarter and increased its lead to six. The Panthers had a chance to pull away but came up empty on their next three possessions. Drake took advantage and went on a 5-0 run to tie the score at 29-29.

Abby Tuttle, who finished with seven points, hit a 3-pointer to give the Panthers the lead back. Northern Iowa went into halftime with a 34-33 lead. But the lead didn’t last long.

Drake opened the third quarter with the first six points of the second half. Lexi Carlsen sank a 3 that gave the Bulldogs a 39-33 lead. The lead grew to nine when Ava Hawthorne swished a shot from beyond the arc.

The Bulldogs suddenly went cold, missing 10 of their last 11 shots of the quarter including their last seven. Northern Iowa capitalized with a 10-0 run. Twedt connected on a pair of 3s during the run that gave the Panthers a 46-45 lead.

Northern Iowa rolled through the fourth quarter, scoring the first five points and winning by double digits.
