Dimitar Mitov in action against Rangers on Tuesday [SNS]
Interim Aberdeen manager Peter Leven says, "we are all behind" Dimitar Mitov, insisting he "is a top, top goalkeeper".
The Bulgaria international has come under fire in recent times following a number of errors and was at fault during the Dons' 2-0 midweek defeat at Rangers.
Speaking before Sunday's Scottish Premiership visit of the Ibrox club Leven said: "If a goalie makes a mistake it is a goal but nobody talks about the save he made against [Rangers' Nico] Raskin, it was an unbelievable save, that is a world class save.
"Dimi is a top, top goalkeeper, he is an international goalkeeper and we are all behind him with belief he will stand up.
"We can look over the time he has been here and he has made some top class performances. It is just getting that consistency and then I will put it on to my defenders – can you protect him a little bit more, can you block shots more, can you defend your box more at set plays?
"So, it is not all about Dimi, I think we have got to look as a collective, as a team.
"Again he was brilliant today in training, we will just wait and see on Sunday."
Following Jimmy Thelin's sacking last week, Leven finds himself in temporary charge for a third time.
Prior to their midweek loss in Glasgow, the club announced recently appointed sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel would be among those supporting Leven.
Nevertheless, eyebrows were raised in some quarters when Pfannenstiel joined Leven in the dugout at Ibrox.
"Listen, it is fine by me," said Leven. "I don't know why we are making a big deal out of it.
"We are interim staff right now, I am bringing up Stuart Duff and Paul Coutts and Lutz is helping out as well so for me there is absolutely no problem, it is quite refreshing to be honest.
"We are quite closed in Scotland and change we are like, 'wow what is happening here?' But I don't mind it at all, it is something different, why we can't we try something different, why can't Aberdeen do something different without getting criticised?
"He is not going to be in the dugout forever. If there is change he will probably go back upstairs."
