The North Carolina Tar Heels lacked a true post presence for a majority of their basketball season, which caused bigger, more athletic teams to pick them apart during games.
Luckily for UNC, Ven-Allen Lubin and Jae'Lyn Withers rose to the challenge come February. Lubin turned into a scoring and rebounding machine, recording a few double-doubles en route to the NCAA Tournament, while Withers became North Carolina's greatest perimeter threat.
Jalen Washington, the Tar Heels' reserve center option who started a few games during their 2024-2025 campaign, is now in the transfer portal. Withers is out of eligibility. To make a long story short, UNC needs all the post help it can get next season, with the transfer portal a viable option to find production.
North Carolina's latest transfer target is Bucknell center Noah Williamson, the reigning Patriot League Player of the Year, who averaged 17.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.
If the Tar Heels are somehow able to land Williamson, he'll start at center from Day One. UNC will also have Lubin returning, but headlines will surrounding the arrival of 5-star power forward Caleb Wilson, who is a Top-10 player in the 2025 recruiting class.
We knew North Carolina would struggle to find post production during its recently-ended season, which is bound to happen when you're replacing a program great like Armando Bacot. Without Lubin, though, a highly-debated NCAA Tournament berth wouldn't be in the question.
Can UNC lock in a visit for Williamson? There's plenty of selling points for a commitment: Williamson and Wilson would form a vaunted post duo, the possibility of playing in the same lineup with Ian Jackson and Drake Powell, plus the ability to be the Tar Heels' clear-cut starting center.
