The North Carolina Tar Heels' baseball program is off to another hot start here in 2026. Through the first month or so of the season, the Diamond Heels are 24-4-1 overall and 9-3 in conference play.

Ahead of Tuesday's game against Campbell, the program made a big announcement.

North Carolina announced that manager Scott Forbes and the program have agreed to a new contract extension, keeping him in Chapel Hill through the 2031 season. Forbes is in his sixth season in charge of UNC's program and is 224-108-1 overall. He's spent 25 total years on UNC's staff, previously working under Mike Fox's staff.

Under Forbes, North Carolina has reached the NCAA Tournament in each of his five seasons. He's also taken the Tar Heels to the College World Series in 2024 and was named the ACC Coach of the Year in that season.

The program has really hit another gear under Forbes as well. In each of the last three seasons, they have been considered a team that is a favorite to reach the College World Series. Despite not reaching it last season, the Tar Heels were one game away before falling to Arizona.
