UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham says Gianni Infantino is not the ‘right man to lead football’

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Andy Burnham, has criticised FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s leadership.

Infantino is at the centre of a controversy following his plan to sell a stake in FIFA’s competitions, including the World Cup.

Many have called for Infantino to step down as FIFA President, including the English FA, which has withdrawn its support for him.

Burnham has now become the latest public figure to call for a new FIFA President after Infantino’s controversial proposal.

Andy Burnham says Gianni Infantino should not be FIFA President​

Andy Burnham took a moment away from discussing British politics to address Gianni Infantino’s FIFA presidency.

The Prime Minister has backed the English FA’s decision to withdraw support for Infantino, who has become increasingly unpopular.

“I do not believe that he is the right man to lead football forward on the world stage,” Burnham told Sky Sports.


“The plan that was put forward was offensive to many football people around the world, and it can’t be the case that we move on and forget that. It wasn’t acceptable.”

While there are no immediate plans for Infantino to step down, many would prefer that FIFA had a different President.

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has already been earmarked as a potential replacement for Infantino.
