Ultimate Fighting Championship star Jon Jones has revealed in an interview that Ferrari Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton called him a “coward” and even blocked him on social media after a video of the UFC fighter shooting a pig surfaced online in 2021.
The seven-time F1 champion has been an animal rights advocate for years now, even going to the extent of becoming a vegan in 2017. The following year, he was named PETA’s Person of the Year.
Jones’ video of shooting a pig with an AR-15 from a helicopter made headlines in January 2021. The footage showed him firing at the animal as it ran for its life during a hunt with Army Rangers. This was something Hamilton did not like, and he sent Jones a message expressing his disappointment.

Speaking in an interview on the ALF Global YouTube channel, Jones said:
“I went hunting years ago with a bunch of Army Rangers, and we ended up hunting pigs from a helicopter using AR-15s. I was so proud of myself because I killed one of the pigs from the helicopter, and my pig was donated to an underprivileged family in the community.
“But Lewis saw me shoot the pig from a helicopter, and he wrote me a long message saying that I was a coward. And that he thought that I was better than that. He said that the traditional way of killing an animal should be with a spear or with a bow and an arrow. He wrote something like, ‘Only a coward could shoot an animal from a helicopter. Give the animal a chance to fight you back at least.'”
Jones then revealed he was a Hamilton fan, and apologized, saying:
“He unfollowed me, and he blocked me, and it sucked because I was his fan. I was a fan of him, but he was very disappointed in me for shooting the pig. Lewis, if you’re listening, I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I won’t do it again.”
