Imanol Rodriguez and Kevin Borjas put on a show Saturday in Mexico City.
At UFC Fight Night 268 at CDMX Arena, Rodriguez (7-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and Borjas (10-5 MMA, 1-4 UFC) battled for nearly two full rounds in a chippy brawl with twists and turns. Despite being tagged around the cage early, Rodriguez rallied to finish Borjas with punches at the 4:21 mark of Round 2.
The flyweight bout could be the frontrunner for Fight of the Night. The fighters needed to be separated during Joe Martinez's introduction and after the Round 1 bell. The intensity was palpable.
Borjas rocked and nearly finished Rodriguez with a lengthy flurry in Round 1, but it was Rodriguez who got the last laugh. Rodriguez cracked Borjas with an overhand right that sat Borjas down and then pounded away with punches until referee Raul Porrata dove in.
With the win, Rodriguez maintains his reputation as a finishing machine. Though he lost to eventual season winner Joseph Morales by split decision in a TUF 33 exhibition bout, Rodriguez remains undefeated. Borjas falls into a two-fight skid and could be looking at the chopping block having lost four of five.
