HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – The University of Evansville women’s basketball team is set to enter the Missouri Valley Conference women’s basketball tournament as the ten seed.

For the first time, the conference tournament will be held at the Xtream Arena in Coralville, Iowa. About 15 minutes away from where Indiana Fever star, Caitlin Clark made a name for herself in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

The perfect place for the Purple Aces to make a bit of history themselves. UE hasn’t won the tournament since 2009 and have not won a game in the postseason since 2016-17 season.

Despite not being at the top of the standings in the MVC, the Aces have shown a steady growth since the beginning of then season. However, they have been hampered by a number of injuries to key players. But they’ve consistently shown they can compete with the better teams in the conference. Now with the MVC title on the line and an NCAA tournament berth up for grabs, UE will have to show just how hungry they are to outlast the rest of the bracket.

“One of the things this young team has embraced is just trying to blaze our own path,” said head coach Robyn Scherr. “And you know UE hasn’t won a first round game in the tournament in quite a while and this group I know they want to be the ones to do that. And I know they believe they can. So you know I think the message is that we always feel like we can go beat anyone and this week is really going to be no different.”

Evansville will face the University of Chicago Illinois in the first round of the tournament on Thursday, March 12th, at 6 p.m. The game is set to stream on ESPN Plus.
