HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — A University of Evansville Purple Ace has been selected in the MLB Draft.
Senior pitcher Max Hansmann was selected by the Washington Nationals in the eighth round of the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft on Sunday afternoon. He is the first Purple Ace since 2022 to be picked in the MLB Draft.
Hansmann was the 226th overall selection in the draft, the highest selected Ace since Kyle Freeland was selected eighth overall in 2014 and the 10th highest pick in program history. He is the 47th draft pick in program history and the fourth Ace to be drafted by the Nationals organization, joining Jamey Carroll, Kai Tuomi and Sam Johns.
According to the university, Hansmann ranks 7th in program history in appearances with 83 and 15th in program history with 217 strikeouts.
