UCLA women’s basketball star Gabriela Jaquez is still riding the high of winning the national championship and earning a spot on the Final Four all-tournament team. On Monday night, she got something else to celebrate.
Jaquez was selected by the Chicago Sky with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft, in what was a historic night for the Bruins.
In total, five UCLA players were selected in the first round, which was the most of all time, including three straight — Lauren Betts, Jaquez, and Kiki Rice — from picks No. 4 through No. 6.

After Jaquez was selected, she had to go into full Gen Z mode and break out a viral TikTok dance in celebration to Lil Uzi Vert’s hit song “What You Saying.”
It’s been quite the month of April for Jaquez, who joins her brother and fellow UCLA alum, Jaime Jaquez, a professional basketball player. Jaime plays for the NBA’s Miami Heat.
During her final year with the Bruins, Jaquez averaged 13.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.1 steals per game, while averaging a career-high 53.9 percent from the field. In the national championship, Jaquez scored a game-high 21 points, to go with 10 rebounds and five assists.

Now, she’ll look to bring her championship experience to a rebuilding Sky team, which traded away Angel Reese in the offseason but added star players like Skylar Diggins, DiJonai Carrington, and Rickea Jackson.
Jacquez and the Sky will start their preseason campaign on Saturday, April 25, on the road against the Phoenix Mercury, before the regular season tips off on Saturday, May 9, on the road against the expansion Portland Fire.
