UCF football’s quarterback competition went from four hopefuls to three Wednesday.

Dylan Rizk, who started the Knights’ final four games of the 2024 season and remained in the mix for next fall during the ongoing spring camp, intends to enter the transfer portal when it opens April 16, per a report from On3’s Pete Nakos.

The redshirt sophomore from Delray Beach arrived at UCF as a three-star prospect in 2023. He began last season as the fourth-string quarterback but eventually landed as UCF’s starter after KJ Jefferson’s benching and the ensuing carousel ride involving EJ Colson and Jacurri Brown.

In six games, Rizk completed 61.5% of his passes for 904 yards and five touchdowns. He tossed two interceptions.

The highlight came in his first start against Arizona. The Knights dominated their way to a 56-12 victory, and Rizk played a huge part, connecting on 20 of his 25 throws for 294 yards and three touchdowns. He added nine rushes for 55 yards.

But he couldn’t continue the magic across UCF’s final three games, all losses.

New head coach Scott Frost arrived in December. Colson bolted Orlando for Purdue, but Frost added two transfer quarterbacks during the winter portal window. That set up a four-way battle between Rizk, Brown, Indiana transfer Tayven Jackson and Florida Atlantic transfer Cam Fancher.

Frost spoke about the competition after the team’s first open practice of the spring last Saturday. Rizk was the last of the four to take a snap during that session.

“All four guys that have taken reps right now are doing good things,” Frost said. “What we really have to eliminate is the mistakes. For as many good plays as we're making, one catastrophic play hurts you worse than three really good plays help you. I need guys that are seeing the game faster, making good decisions.”

The spring portal will stay open for less than two weeks, closing April 25.
