Although UCF point guard Themus Fulks has moved onto the NBA, he still has an opportunity to add to his college legacy.
On Wednesday, Fulks was named a nominee for the Big 12 Athlete of the Year alongside UCF softball's Sierra Humphreys.
Currently playing on the Los Angeles Clippers' Summer League team, Fulks and Knights shooting guard Riley Kugel are looking to pave out a career at the professional level after going undrafted in the 2026 NBA Draft.
Last season, Fulks was an instrumental part of UCF's success, helping the Knights to their best finish since joining the Big 12 and ending a six-year March Madness drought.
Fulks averaged 14 points, 6.7 assists and 3 rebounds, shooting a team-high 46.2% from the field in his lone season with the Knights.
The former Milwaukee standout served as UCF's tablesetter, frequently pushing pace and finding his teammates for high-level looks.
For his play, Fulks earned Third-Team All-Big 12 Honors, marking the first time a Knight has found their way onto an Big 12 All-Conference Team. He also was named to the Big 12 Starting Five three times throughout the season, providing consistent playmaking and efficient scoring to head coach Johnny Dawkins and the Knights.
Fulks' touch is impressive around the rim, while his ability to rise up and knock down jumpers at his spots is notable.
During UCF's 97-84 rout of No. 19 BYU, Fulks scored 24 points while dropping 11 dimes.
His tenth made history, breaking the UCF single-season record for assists, breaking the previous mark of 183 set by Knights Hall of Famer Sinua Phillips (1991-1994).
By the end of the season, Fulks racked up 222 dimes, beating out the previous record by a wide margin.
Both Fulks and Kugel had the opportunity to play at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament following the season, making the most out of their additional opportunity to show their skills against the top seniors in college basketball.
In Fulks' PIT debut, he scored 12 points, adding six assists and two steals.
While Fulks' vision is his biggest strength, it can also make him a bit too creative with his passes.
At times, Fulks caught the turnover bug last season, but would usually slow himself down and make up for his mistakes.
Fulks' 39.2% mark from 3-point range was a big improvement, but the 6-foot-2 lead guard will need to continue to develop his shot from distance to stand out in the perimeter-centric NBA.
