Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro has finally addressed the controversy surrounding his comments about former teammate Jimmy Butler, clarifying what he meant in an Instagram story via his burner account.

Herro took issue with how his words were framed, claiming they were taken out of context during a tumultuous season for the Heat.

The Athletic’s Jared Weiss had asked Herro about the January-February period when Butler’s future with the Heat was uncertain—a saga that culminated in Butler’s trade to the Golden State Warriors.

Herro explained, “I said I had come into the season thinking I was playing off of Jimmy, to him getting traded and I had to switch my mindset from needing Jimmy to me being the lead guy.”

He emphasized that his comments were about personal growth and lessons learned from Butler, not a declaration of dependency.

Herro’s Game 4 stat line consisting of just a mere four points didn’t help his case, as social media erupted with criticism.

Yet, his clarification sheds light on the challenges of transitioning into a primary role post-Butler, who faced his own drama with the Heat, including an indefinite suspension earlier in the season.

As the Heat regroup, Herro’s fiery response signals a player determined to set the record straight and lead his team forward.
