With Buffalo Bills kicker Matt Prater dealing with an injury, many are wondering if it's possible for the team to get fellow kicker Tyler Bass back.

Bass has been on injured reserve since before Week 1 due to a left hip/groin injury, so he is eligible to return.

However, Bills head coach Sean McDermott announced in early December that Bass had to have surgery for his injury and that would likely end his season.

Despite that, McDermott was asked about the possibility for Bass to make it back in the playoffs now that Prater has re-aggravated his right quadriceps issue.

McDermott revealed a return for Bass is unlikely.

"Sean McDermott said he does not believe there is a chance for kicker Tyler Bass to return at any point this season," The Buffalo News' Jay Skurski reported. "The coach adds that there are no plans to open the practice window for any of the players on injured reserve this week. Most notably, that includes DT Ed Oliver."

The Bills are in a rough spot at kicker, to say the least.

Prater has already missed a few games with the same injury this season, and the current expectation is he doesn't have a good chance to suit up on Sunday, when Buffalo takes on the Jacksonville Jaguars in the wild-card round.

Prater's previous replacement, Michael Badgley, did not work out over two games and isn't likely to be a solution in what is already a thin market at this point at this very late stage.

We'll get our next update on Prater on Wednesday, when the Bills release their first injury report of the week. We would expect Buffalo to bring in some kicker for tryouts very soon.
