How are national networks viewing the Washington Commanders' 2026 season?

CBS Sports Network on Friday discussed the NFC East and those teams' 2026 season.

Emory Hunt started, "Well, if he (Jayden Daniels) stays healthy that puts him in position to probably carve out some of these wins. I have them going 8-9. I still have a wait-and-see approach with this defense. I think that is the biggest issue for me. I love the fact they went out and got Rachaad White. They got Kaytron Allen in the draft, so their running game should be prominent alongside a healthy Jayden Daniels. You hope they have done enough in the passing game. I know they bring back Dyami Brown as a big weapon for them, in my opinion. With the pieces they've added in the defensive line and secondary, have they done enough they can be at least middle of the pack? As long as their quarterback is out there for a 17-game season, they'll be able to put up points, but that defense has to be at least average."

John Breech had a much more cautious view of the Commanders. "That defense is going to have to improve quickly. It simply was not good enough last year. When you look at that opening slate, they are going to have to gel very fast. They're going to have to bring their A-game in the first few weeks of the season. When we are talking about these first four weeks, Washington's season could be over before it even starts. They are the only team in the NFL that opens the season with back-to-back road games against divisional opponents. So if you lose those first two games, you're already buried in a hole in the NFC East that is going to be difficult to get out of. Then you have to go play the Seahawks, and then you have to fly off to London. So, an 0-4 start is not inconceivable here. I have the Commanders going 7-10. So, I do think they are going to struggle a little this season, and I just think that start is going to be tough for them."

Dyami Brown a big weapon? That would be a nice change, wouldn't it? Brown did make some big plays in the playoff wins over Tampa Bay and Detroit in 2024. But for the rest of his career, four seasons in Washington and one in Jacksonville, the production simply hasn't been present. His contract numbers are so low that they suggest Brown might not even have gotten other offers. It would be great if Brown could turn around what has been an underwhelming career thus far. The good news: He's only 26 years old.
