The Minnesota Twins suffered a huge loss ahead of the 2026 season when they announced Pablo Lopez, their No. 2 starting pitcher, had to have Tommy John surgery. Now, they need to find his replacement.

Fansided’s Zachary Rotman predicts the Twins could be a dark horse for a veteran All-Star in Lucas Giolito. He eats innings, and he had a pretty productive 2025.

“Another team that should be desperate for a starting pitcher is the Minnesota Twins, which just lost Pablo Lopez for the season. With Joe Ryan and Bailey Ober being their only semi-reliable starters, Giolito would be a valuable addition as an innings-eater. Worst case, he wouldn't cost much, and if the Twins are out of it at the trade deadline, he can fetch them a prospect or two in a deal,” Rotman wrote.

Giolito finished 2025 with a 10-4 record, a 3.41 ERA, 121 Ks, and a WHIP of 1.290 over 145 innings pitched. He’d round out a decent front end to a rotation, giving the Twins a 1-2-3 punch with him, Joe Ryan, and Bailey Ober.

Giolito’s projected to receive a three-year, $61 million deal; however, considering that Spring Training has started, the Twins could get him for way cheaper than that.

Hopefully, the Twins consider this as they still have a chance to be a contender this year, and Giolito would help them with that.
