Simeon Woods Richardson, the once promising pitcher acquired in the deal that sent Jose Berrios to the Toronto Blue Jays in 2021, was designated for assignment on Saturday morning, the club announced.
Woods Richardson, 25, was 0-7 with a 7.74 earned-run average after 10 starts, the last a 6-2 loss to the White Sox in Chicago in which he surrendered five earned runs in 2⅔ innings innings. The Twins now have seven days to trade him or give the right-hander his outright release.
If unclaimed, he can be sent back into the Twins’ minor league system.
To take his place on the 26-man roster, the Twins recalled right-hander John Klein from Class AAA St. Paul. In his first stint with the Twins, Klein made his major league debut in May and made two relief appearances (0-1, 7.71 ERA, 2⅔ innings innings).
