Twins' Joe Ryan trade update is huge for potential value originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Minnesota Twins are very likely to sell by the August 3 MLB trade deadline. Their biggest question might not be if they're buyers or sellers, but how far they sell. Bryon Buxton and Joe Ryan are the two players worth keeping close tabs on.
While Buxton has a full no-trade clause, Ryan does not, and in turn, is the more likely player to be dealt. The All-Star pitcher is one of the top pitchers available this summer, but what could he bring back in a trade for the Twins?
Thanks to the trade update from MLB.com's Mark Feinsand, Ryan is a trade candidate on the rise, with his trade stock increasing, which is a huge update for Minnesota as the deadline approaches.
Twins get huge stock-up Joe Ryan trade update
"After a winter filled with trade rumors, Ryan returned to the Twins in 2026 and continues to put up strong numbers, ranking among the elite in both walk and strikeout rate," Feinsand writes."The 30-year-old is 2-0 with a 2.39 ERA over his past six starts..."
Ryan is someone who's been on the trade block for roughly a year now and is one of the more coveted pitchers ahead of this year's deadline.
But, there is still a chance that he struggles a bit and doesn't bring back as large a return as the Twins would hope for in trading such a good pitcher.

Fortunately, with Ryan dominating lately, with that 2.39 ERA in his last six starts to go with his 3.07 ERA this season, there's reason to believe the Twins' return in a trade would be very strong.
He began the season on a little bit of a rough patch, posting a 3.76 ERA through May. While that's not bad, it's not an All-Star level, and it left a bit to be desired.
But, with a 2.39 ERA in his last six starts, Ryan's trade value is in a good place, and he should be able to bring in a solid return for Minnesota despite a question of whether that would be possible after a shaky start to the year.
