Finally the spring sports season had a full week of every sport without interruption from the weather.

Central Minnesotan baseball and softball teams have logged several results on dirt and area lacrosse teams played their first games from April 6-12. Local track and field and tennis athletes continued to post impressive results, some track athletes already earning enough medals to make Michael Phelps jealous. Several are clocking personal best times.

The impressive performances of spring athletes can be read below and you can enter your opinion in an online poll of the best.

Highlighted are varsity players from Albany, Becker, Foley, Holdingford, Kimball, ROCORI, Eden Valley-Watkins, Sartell-St. Stephen, Sauk Rapids-Rice, St. Cloud Apollo, St. Cloud Cathedral, St. Cloud Tech and St. John’s Prep.

Elliot Allen, Albany baseball senior pitcher and outfielder

The Albany baseball team started on the road with two losses, but bounced back with a win against Warroad on April 11. The Huskies beat the Warriors 7-0 after losing 4-2 to Milaca and 10-0 to Cathedral earlier in the week. Senior Elliot Allen started against Warroad (0-5), going six innings and only giving up a single in the second inning. He also had five strikeouts in the game, staying very efficient with 68 pitches in the game.

Allen played in the outfield corners when he wasn’t pitching, playing clean defense, but going 0-3 at the plate. He took two walks and had the same number of strikeouts.

Ellie Becker, Eden Valley-Watkins/Kimball track and field senior

The EV-W/Kimball girls track team competed in two events last week, placing third of eight teams April 10 at the Litchfield Invitational and second the next day at the Craig Johnshoy Invite in Pierz.

On April 10 in Litchfield she also won a bronze medal in the 4x200-meter relay and in the pole vault, clearing 9-feet, 6-inches, same as her winning height. Her winning high jump bars were 5’2” and 5’.

Also in Litchfield, Becker set season-low times in the 100 and 200-meter races, but did not place.
