Burhan Can Terzi found himself in hot water with Turkish law enforcement after reporting that Jamal Musiala would be joining Galatasaray.

The job of a football journalist can be somewhat difficult, especially during the transfer window. With teams and players trying to move in absolute silence, reporters try to shine a light on their operations.

In trying to uncover the truth, things can go wrong for reporters, and they can get inaccurate information. But now, some reporters have to worry about legal action if they get things wrong.

Turkish journalist detained by police over Jamal Musiala to Galatasaray report​

According to reporting from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Turkish reporter Burhan Can Terzi was detained by the police for spreading misinformation.

It has been alleged that Can Terzi was brought in because of his reporting that Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala would be joining Galatasaray.


Galatasaray officials have denied these reports multiple times. However, Can Terzi had maintained that his sources had provided him with accurate information.

Because of his insistence on the move’s veracity, Galatasaray claimed that Can Terzi was allegedly reporting inaccurate information to jeopardise how the team conducts business in the transfer market.

Can Terzi had to give a statement to the Turkish police, who then released him upon instruction from the judicial system.

The arrest came as part of a larger investigation led by the Turkish chief prosecutor out of Bakirkoy to curb the crime of spreading misinformation.

This incident will force other Turkish reporters to be extra careful and corroborate the information they report even further.

Musiala is not going to be joining Galatasaray, as he is currently under contract with Bayern Munich until 2030, and is the centrepiece of their team.

Given how well Musiala has been playing for Bayern over the last few years, and the fact that he is still only 23 years old, means they are unlikely to sell him.

Even if Bayern were to consider a sale, Musiala’s age and talent would command a hefty transfer fee, one that Galatasaray may not be able to afford.
